The mission of CSHP is to:
(a) serve as an organization through which the membership pursues its common professional goals.

(b) provide leadership for the profession and support for its members.

(c) represent its members before private and public agencies and health care professional organizations.

OUR MISSION

Our goals are to provide networking opportunities for students with local pharmacists, introduce different pharmacy career pathways within the profession, and organize health related events in order to promote the health care role of the pharmacist within the community.

HISTORY

2003 marked a very special year for the University of the Pacific. Through the hard work of many students, faculty members, and administrators, the California Society of Health Systems Pharmacist (CSHP) granted Pacific our very own official chapter. The Pacific Student Society of Health-Systems Pharmacist (PSSHP) was created to offer vast networking opportunities, educational experiences, and a voice in policies that will govern and shape the future of our profession.

CSHP, founded in 1962, is recognized as California's leading-edge association benefiting pharmacy professionals in the health-system environments. This includes hospitals, managed care organizations, long-term care facilities, home-health care, clinics, ambulatory care, academia and industry. Members of CSHP are eager to interact with our student members and talk about their careers and life experiences. This was no more evident than in PSSHP's first annual Pharmacy Career Options Panel. The guest speakers were very excited about their careers and offered insightful advice on how to choose a career with in pharmacy.

The most important aspect of being in pharmacy school is learning how to apply the knowledge gained in the class room to actual patient care. Our student chapter offers many opportunities to our student members to practice their diagnostic and consultation skills through community service projects. This past year, our members participated in diabetes, cholesterol, and hypertension screenings at the annual asparagus festival, and at the grand opening of the new Health Sciences building. Each year Pacific also holds clinical pharmacy competitions with the winners advancing to the state and possibly to the national competition at the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacist (ASHP) mid-year meeting.

Each year CSHP holds a Seminar in October. This is an opportunity for students and pharmacists to gather and network. The Seminar includes activities such as the residency showcase, and the quiz bowl for students. In 2003, we started out with 2 delegates representing our student chapter. Since then, the number has increased to 5 delegates.

In January 2008, PSSHP was the first student chapter to propose changing its name to CSHP-Pacific. President Justin Quintal made this proposal in order to reflect our association with the state parent organization (CSHP).

CSHP-Pacific is an organization that is dedicated to serving our members and advancing the profession of pharmacy through active community involvement, networking, and policy making. We welcome the new Pacific pharmacy students and encourage everyone to consider joining CSHP-Pacific.
